Supporting Local During Carol Stream’s First Restaurant Week

Chris and I made it a point to visit a few local spots during Carol Stream’s first Restaurant Week, and it was great to see restaurants full and the community out enjoying themselves. Events like this are a reminder that loving where you live isn’t just about your home — it’s about the places you gather, the people you run into, and the small traditions that make a community feel connected.

As someone who’s lived here for decades, I always love seeing local businesses supported. It’s part of what makes our area feel like home in the first place.

Visiting New Places

After living in Carol Stream for so many years, we went to Manhattan’s for the first time. We thought we had been before, but realized that after all these years and many meals out, we had in fact never visited. It has a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere with a large variety on the menu. They are open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and also offer entertainment every Friday and Saturday.

We wrapped up our week at Village Tavern & Grill, another local favorite. We had our grandson with us for the evening, so he came along too. He loved their chicken tenders, which they’re known for. Of course, in the Midwest everyone loves a good Friday night fish fry, so the place was hopping.

Visiting a New Place

Living a low-sodium lifestyle can make eating out a little more challenging, but we believe in living life to the fullest—with moderation. We had been hearing and seeing great things about a new place in town called Legends Pizza, and Restaurant Week felt like the perfect time to give it a try. Full disclosure, we had actually been there once before, but we loved it so much we had to go back.

The owners, Chris and Michelle, are incredibly friendly and welcoming. Michelle even remembered us from our first visit, which really impressed me. They go all out with their holiday décor, and during this visit everything was themed for Valentine’s Day. From the decorations on the walls and ceilings to the drink specials—even the heart-shaped straws—everything was perfectly on brand.

Choosing a veggie pizza always helps cut down on the sodium, but they have many other choices on the menu as well. I did indulge and try their famous Bloody Mary, it was amazing.
